Micah Network Asia Leadership Workshop: New Delhi, India March 21 – 25, 2009

Micah Network is organising Journeying Into Undefended Leadership, a three–day workshop during March 21 – 25, 2009 for chief functionaries of Christian organizations in Asia.
Journeying Into Undefended Leadership will be facilitated by Rev. Dr. Simon P. Walker, a clergyman and founder and a director of the Leadership Community, a growing international group of social leaders. Simon runs courses for both secular and spiritual leaders to help to develop moral leadership, a subject which he is passionate about.

Micah Network 4th Triennial Global Consultation: Nairobi, Kenya July 13 – 18, 2009

Preliminary Invitation to the 4th Triennial Global Consultation

Members and friends are invited to participate in our 4th Triennial Global Consultation on the theme of Creation Stewardship and Climate Change from July 13 – 18, 2009 in Kenya.

The Consultation will promote a deeper understanding of integral mission and sound theology on environmental sustainability and justice. The plenary, case study and workshop sessions will strengthen the capacity of participants and participating agencies to respond more effectively to climate change.

Climate Change Conferences: Uppsala, Sweden & Poznan, Poland

Members will be interested to know that there has been a number of high profile meetings and conferences on climate change in recent weeks.

Interfaith Climate Summit 2008 , Uppsala, Sweden: November 28 - 29, 2008

At the invitation of the Church of Sweden, a group of internationally recognised opinion-makers from different faiths, cultures and continents convened in Uppsala, Sweden for a summit on Climate Change.

The 2-days Uppsala gathering concluded with the signing of the Uppsala Manifesto 2008 which will be presented to the Swedish Government and to the Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting in Poznan, Poland by the head of the Church of Sweden Archbishop Anders Wejryd.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference, Poznan, Poland – COP 14: December 1 – 12, 2008

"The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznań opened on Monday, 1 December. The Conference is a milestone on the road to success for the processes which were launched under the Bali Road Map. The meeting comes midway between COP 13 in Bali, which saw the launch of negotiations on strengthened international action on climate change, and COP 15 Copenhagen, at which the negotiations are set to conclude."

Micah Network Website: New Improved Look!

Micah Network has recently completed the 1st phase of its web development project with the redesign of its 4 language websites:

The information and resources have been streamlined and reorganised to make it more user-friendly. If you have any feedbacks on how we can further improve the website, please email Anne Liew at Anne.Liew@micahnetwork.org.
 
The 2nd phase of the development is set to begin soon and will result in the creation of a space for greater community interaction.  The new features will allow members to upload their organisational profiles, case studies, reports, job openings, etc. It will be a members' only feature controlled by login credentials (username and password). 

Note: Some of you have already submitted email requests for a username and password. Your account will only be activated when we are ready to launch the 2nd phase.  More information will be available in the coming months.

News from EFICOR, India: Response to the Communal Violence in Kandhamal, Orissa

The communal violence in Kandhamal (Orissa) which began in August 08 had rendered many people homeless, creating fear and hatred among communities in Kandhamal. The situation had compelled people to stay in relief camps set up by the government of Orissa.

In response to the emergency situation created by the communal violence in Kandhamal (Orissa), EFICOR in partnership with other NGOs decided to take up relief operation for 4000 families staying in 9 different relief camps in Kandhamal.

UNAIDS Best Practice Collection - Preventing Carer Burnout, IMCARES 

This UNAIDS report is the result of a five-day on-site visit to Inter-Mission Care and Rehabilitation Society (IMCARES) and it looks at how the organization has managed to prevent burnout among its staff members through its faith and practical measures.

IMCARES, a member of Micah Network, is a registered charitable society based in Mumbai, Maharashtra State, India.

Please join with us in prayer for the following:

World

  • Conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo has displaced 250,000 people since August. Pray for an end to the fighting between the government and Tutsi rebels. Please pray that people in need are able to receive assistance and for Micah Network friends and members living there.
  • Cholera is continuing to be a huge problem in the struggling nation of Zimbabwe. Cholera is affecting all ten of the country's districts and the government says 80 people have died. Aid agencies estimate it's closer to 300. Poor water and sanitation systems, coupled with increasingly-inaccessible health and other services have caused the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe. This outbreak is a breakdown of Zimbabwe's government services. Thank God for the recent announcement that the Bush administration is doubling emergency aid to Zimbabwe in response to the Cholera epidemic. Pray that this will have a significant effect on the epidemic.
  • At recent UN climate change talks, developing nations have accused rich nations of refusing to act boldly enough to stop global warming. As rich countries' leaders are slow to address their disproportionate share of emissions, it's poor and vulnerable communities who suffer the consequences. Pray that these recent talks result in positive changes.

Events

  • Planning is progressing well for the Micah Network 4th Triennial Global Consultation on Creation Stewardship and Climate Change to be held in Kenya from 13-18 July 2009. Three key committees have been formed to assist Micah Network in the planning of the Consultation: the Local Organising Committee, Climate Change Advisory Group and International Program Team. Please pray for this stage of planning.
  • Micah Network member, Samaritana Transformation Ministries in the Philippines is hosting the International Christian Alliance on Prostitution (ICAP) Asia Conference on 10- 17 January 2009. Pray for Samaritana and ICAP as they prepare for this important event.
  • The Micah Network Asia Coordinating Group is planning the Asia Leadership Workshop to be held in India 21-25 March 2009. Pray for Micah Network's Asia Regional Coordinator, Sundar Daniel, and Micah Network board member Dino L. Touthang as they make arrangements for the event. Pray for a good response to the invitation sent out last week.

People

  • Please pray for Jane Furniss and her husband Peter as they prepare for the birth of their first baby, due anytime now! Pray for good health for Jane and the baby.
  • Please pray for Regine Nagel who has recently left her position with Micah Challenge. Pray for her as she relocates and settles back in London.
  • Please pray for Anne Liew as she takes on additional responsibilities as acting International Director of Micah Network while Jane Furniss is on maternity leave.
  • Pray for the recruitment of a Project Assistant to Micah Network's office in Malaysia. We are eager to appoint someone as soon as possible. Please pray that we find the right person for the role.
