WEA Expresses Condolences to the Family of Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and the Nation of Pakistan
Pakistani opposition leader and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated in a suicide bomb attack earlier on Thursday, December 27, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan……“The murder of former Prime Minister is one of the most tragic events in the history of Pakistan,” said the Rev. Candelin. “After working together with Mrs. Bhutto for democracy for several years I can say that her importance for democracy and human rights in Pakistan can never be underestimated.”

Brutal oppression and genocide continues in Burma as it has for decades, but another brief moment of media interest has long sense ceased. The crack down has not stopped, the torture has not stopped, the killing has not stopped, but the the media coverage that helps the collective will for change has stopped. We citizens of the world need the media to help keep us awake to the reality of this ongoing tragedy, and point us toward those change agents providing opportunities for us to join in promoting peace in Burma.

Papua (Indonesia): Genocide by Demographics
If present demographic trends continue, West Papua (formerly Irian Jaya) will be majority Indonesian (mostly Javanese) Muslim by 2011, and the indigenous Melanesian predominantly Protestant Christian Papuans will be a dwindling 15 percent minority by 2030. This was recently forecast in a conference at the University of Sydney (NSW, Australia) by Political Scientist Dr Jim Elmslie of the West Papua Project, which is based at the University of Sydney Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPACS).

Re-opened Christian murder case described as test for Turkey –By Christian Today Australia
The decision to reopen a murder case which involved the killing of three Christian workers in Turkey by the Turkish Interior Ministry is describe as a test case by a Christian persecution-monitoring ministry.

Central Asia: Growing Religious Oppression
During 2007 there were numerous reports of restriction and persecution of Christians in Central Asia. However, these may be only the tip of the iceberg of the real situation regarding persecution of the Christians living and worshipping God in the predominantly Islamic environment.

Iraq: Sudden Violence Shatters Christmas Calm
Iraq's small yet vigilant Christian community faces these daily challenges and more. Christians have been the target of frequent Islamic extremist attacks forcing tens of thousands to flee their country for safe haven. Consequently, the Christian community has decreased to some half million - a decrease of almost 50 percent since the 1990s.
