Description
The author’s study of missionary training has taken him all over the world. In this work, he shares lessons learned from both Western and non-Western missionary training regarding training, clear objectives, getting started, the profile of a trainer, selecting trainees, the marks of effective training, holistic equipping, contextualized curriculum, and careful assessment of the entire training process.
Abstract
This book is written for those who want to take the task of training missionaries seriously, who are convinced that adequate time must be set aside for missionary preparation, and who are also convinced that theological education of itself is not sufficient preparation for ministry in another culture. Topics covered include the need for training, clear objectives, getting started, the profile of a trainer, selecting trainees, the marks of effective training, wholistic equipping, contextualized curriculum, and careful assessment of the entire training process. Lessons learned from both Western and non-Western missionary training are worked out in practice. Helpful questionnaires and resource materials for those setting up training programs are included.
